August Republican primary,
"There are a lot of Jewish
people — about 17,000 — liv-
ing in the area," Mr. Nemer_
says. "Obviously being Jew- -
ish would have an impact on
that area."
The race for West Bloom ?,
field Township trustee prom-
ises to be anything but dull. c
Sixteen residents are battl-
ing for four trustee positions. ( -1
Of the 16 candidates,
seven are Jewish. They are:
Democrats Richard Barr,
Albert Holtz and Anthony
Spokojny; and Republica
Allen Adelberg, Michael
Alan Schwartz, Marc
Shulman and Larry
Wasserman.
Previously, trustee Judy (
Holtz, (married to Albert
Holtz) who is not seeking re-,_
election, was the only Jew-
ish member of the township <
board. Now a magistrate,
she can only run for non- c=
partisan races.

Jewish candidates are also
plentiful in non-partisan,
races for courts in Oakland
County (and in Wayne c;
County.) One race, for the
47th District Court in Farm- '1
ington Hills stands out.

Judge Margaret
Schaeffer's retirement from
the bench paves the way for
a newcomer. Seven can-
didates, including four Jew-
ish candidates, are vying for
the position.

"Maybe the reason there
are so many Jewish can
didates is that we want to
make sure Jews, and everyone
else, are never discriminated c
against in the future," says
candidate Marla Parker, - 1
magistrate for the 47th
District Court.

The other Jewish can- `f
didates for the bench in 1
Farmington Hills are J , 1
Shirley Saltzman, Steven
Gabel and Kenneth
Knoppow.
