He is an active youth leader in B'nei Akiva and a member of the National Honor Society. Next year he will study at Yeshivat Sha'alavim in Israel. When he returns, he plans to attend Columbia University. Peiss is a three-year member of National Honor Society and was honored by Phi Bet- ta Kappa. She won second place in the Free Press writing competition, was awarded the Chancellor's Scholarship (four years) to the University of Michigan and plans to study psychology. She enjoys acting and has been involved in community theater. Peterson headed choir for her school's annual produc- tion, and has been involved in dance and drama. She qualified for the Michigan Competitive Scholarship, Na- tional Merit semi-finalist, and Phi Beta Kappa and received a Wayne four-year Presidential Scholarship. She has received several writing awards. She will attend Beth Jacob Jerusalem for a year. Pinsky is vice president of the senior class and a Na- tional Merit finalist. He is ac- tive in National Honor Socie- ty and the Interact Service Club, first chair tenor sax- ophone in the jazz band, cap- tain of the soccer team and member of the basketball and football teams. He was honored by Phi Beta Kappa and the Farmington Youth Assistance. He will attend Harvard. Poger was a member of the varsity debate team, student congress delegate, spent one semester in Israel on Project Discovery and served one semester as an intern in Gov. Engler's southeast Michigan office. She is a United Hebrew elementary and high school graduate, was BBG chapter president and treasurer, and participated in Panim el Panim. She will major in in- ternational relations. She has won several na- tional and state journalism awards and is considering journalism as a career. She placed first in her school's science fair and geometry symposium, and volunteered at Sinai Hospital and the Detroit Youththeatre. She will attend the University of Michigan to pursue a career in theater and creative writing. West Bloomfield Sabbota, summa cum laude, is secretary of her senior class, a member of the Na- tional Honor Society, Phi Beta Kappa, and co-editor of the yearbook. She was vice president of the Humanities Club, involved in pompon, soc- cer, cheerleading, NCSY, USY and BBG. She received a Free Press Writing Award, is a nominee for a U of M Regents Scholar Merit Award, and plans to attend the Universi- ty of Michigan. Berkley Scheible is vice president of Berkley's Symphony Or- chestra and has played violin for eight years. She is secretary of the French Na- tional Honor Society and French Club, a member of the National Honor Society and salutatorian. She received a first place award in the Free Press writing contest. She is a member of Temple Emanu- El. She will attend the University of Michigan and study psychology. Southfield-Lathrup Schwarzberg is a member of the National Honor Socie- ty, Scholars Plus, Student Caucus, and treasurer of the senior class. She earned five varsity letters and is co- captain of the pompon squad. She is a graduate of Hillel Day School and will study science at Michigan State University's Lyman Briggs College. She plans to pursue a career in medicine.
