abode Om' EXPANSION ed a particularly warm welcome from the 300,000-strong Korean community. Korean busi- nessmen, who have largely taken over the inner city stores once owned by Jews, 6 were hit hardest during the rampage and see themselves as its principal victims. "They (the Koreans) want to ' learn how the Jewish com- munity is organized, how it functions and raises funds," Rabbi Fields said. The se- cond task force, focusing on the Jewish community itself, is headed by Harold Schulweis, a leading Con- servative rabbi, and Rabbi Laura Geller of the Ameri- can Jewish Congress. Rabbi Schulweis said in an interview that the aftermath of the riots presents an op- portunity to reverse the in- ' sular and inward-looking preoccupation of American Jews with just their own in- terests and to recapture "our noble tradition of compas- sion for the stranger." Funds For Palestinians Brussels (JTA) — The Eu- ropean Community's Ex- ecutive Commission has au- thorized a $15 million grant to improve economic and so- cial conditions for Palestin- ians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The grant was announced here three days after the conclusion of a conference on Middle East economic devel- opment, chaired by the E.C. It was one of the five multilateral meetings on re- gional problems held in various capitals within the framework of the current Arab-Israeli peace talks. Israel boycotted the OP Brussels meeting because Palestinians from outside • the West Bank and Gaza Strip were present. An E.C. commission spokesman said that the grant was earmarked for about 20 projects aimed at creating jobs and revenue in the industrial and agricultural sectors of the Israeli-administered ter- ritories, as well as for im- proving public services and local Palestinian institu- tions. It will also finance health 0 and educational services, es- pecially high schools and professional training. The E.C. has been suppor- ting economic development • in the territories since 1987. It left vague the issue of grants for Palestinian residents east of Jerusalem. 1 CI^Y X R A Hurry! Many designer one-of- a kinds! Designer on staff to assist you. Charge cards welcome.
