Foundation Creates
Summer Camp

The Mark Leshner Founda-
tion for Children has created j
the Mark Leshner Founda-
tion 21st Century City-
Suburban Camp.
Administered by New
Detroit, Inc., the camp is a
multicultural learning ex- 1
perience for children age five
to 10. It's designed to bring '--\/
together youth of diverse
cultural, ethnic, religious and
economic backgrounds to par-
ticipate in a program of
cultural growth.
Youth are taught by ex-
perienced, adult advisors and --/

counselors from the fields of
education, human relations,
and community organization.
Creative teamwork-building `N
projects will enhance the
children's self-worth, promote
cultural awareness, and teach ,/
values of acceptance and
respect for others.
Children who attend must
be between five and 10 years (
old and live in Oakland,
Macomb or Wayne counties.
Youths will be recruited from
schools, churches, synagogues
and community organizations
with the goal of creating a
culturally and ethnically
diverse blend of campers.
Session I is designed for
children five to seven years
old, and will be held July 6-10
at the University of Detroit
Mercy, 8200 West Outer Drive
at the Southfield Expressway.
This is a day camp, with
children returning to their
homes each evening.
Session II is intended for
children age eight to 10, and
will be held Aug. 3-7 at
Oakland University, Walton
Blvd. at South Squirrel Road,
in Rochester. Session II is a

residential camp, with over-
night facilities provided.
Parents must fill out an ap-
plication and consent form
and return it by June 10 to:

applicants will be based on:
(1) content of the application;
(2) date application is submit-
ted; and (3) a diversity for-
mula created by the screening
committee designed to pro-
duce a multi-cultural and
gender-balanced setting for
each session.
Costs for all selected par-
ticipants in the Mark
Leshner Foundation 21st
Century City/Suburban
Camp Program will be
assumed by the Mark
Leshner Foundation.
