other than the proposal —
are yet in place, he added.
"It is still in early stages,"
\ 2' he said.
If the Davidson Institute is
\--utilized for Israel programs,
it would not be the first
2 Israeli connection for Mr.
Davidson, principal owner of
the Detroit Pistons and
majority owner of the Palace
of Auburn Hills and the New
\ Pine Knob, or for U-M's
1 business school.
Mr. Davidson, chairman of
the board and president of
Guardian Industries, an
--- international glass
/- manufacturer, is a long-time
\ supporter of Israel.
A former chairman of
Detroit's Allied Jewish
Campaign, he is a major con-
tributor to the United Jew-
ish Appeal.
`-• The business school has
been developing plans to
link the school with Israel by
expanding the Michigan
)
Business Assistance Corps.
Under the MBA Corps,
which began the summer of
> 1990 in Poland, selected
students travel for a summer
>to underdeveloped countries
I throughout the world. The
j students act as business con-
sultants to various com-

plans, converting accounting
systems and designing
\--marketing
strategies.
_
MBA Corps now is looking
/-- for Israeli business partners,
said U-M research associate
Dr. Jack Edelstein.
Michigan Business Assis-
\ tance Corps' primary objec-
• tive is to enhance the profes-

) students, and at the same
I time, contribute to the de-
velopment of market
economies.
> The program aims to help
U-M better understand the
process of economic and po-
litical change.
In addition to the MBA
Corps, the U-M Business
\ School is looking into a
? possible joint program with
\= Tel Aviv University that
' would promote international
business between Israeli and
U.S. companies, Dr. Edels-
tein said.
Under the preliminary
\-, proposal, U-M MBA
,-
I students would study at Tel
I
/--) Aviv University, and Israeli
students would spend time
at U-M. In addition, students
would work and do research.
"The idea is to help Israeli
\., companies develop business
C plans for the U.S. market,"
Dr. Edelstein said. "It is a
two-way street, also aiming
to stimulate U.S. companies
to do business with Israel." ❑

If you expect to receive money from
maturing or redeemed CDs, you may
be in for a not-so-nice surprise.

It's no secret that rates on such short-term
investments as CDs and money market funds are
at their lowest levels in years. But what you may
not know is that longer-term investments like
corporate, government and municipal bonds have
also experienced rate declines. And these declines
will be even more pronounced in the 1990s.
Don't simply reinvest the principal, and interest
you receive i into low yielding investments.
P aineWebber offers numerous ways for you to
rease our total return and position yourself for
interest rate environment we envision for
