Lag B'Omer Events
At Beth Shalom
Congregation Beth Shalom
Religious School in Oak Park
will hold a special Lag
B'Omer session 10-11:45 a.m.
May 17 on the playground of
Avery School, across from the
synagogue.
Students will participate in
non-competitive activities
such as broad jump and
basketball toss. They will at-
tempt to complete as many
activities during the regular
class time. Lag B'Omer is a
traditional day of outdoor
sports activities.

SZ Youth
Awards, Banquet
Three members of Shaarey
Zedek USY have won awards
and honors. Current SZUSY
President, Sarah Meyers, was
elected membership vice
president of Central Region
USY at their annual regional
convention.
Sarah Hazan, the current
social action tikun olam v.p.
and newly elected president
of SZUSY, received the
Polster Award, given to the
USY'er who demonstrates ex-
cellence in the areas of
leadership, Torah study and
Gimilut Hasadim. She won
for many social action pro-
grams, including bi-monthly
visits to Prentis Manor and
programs with the JARC
residents.
Robert Beresh, a ninth-
grader in the Hebrew High
School, was a recipient of the
grand prize in the Pistons/
Panasonic Cultural Excel-
lence Essay Contest. The
prize included being recogniz-
ed at center court of a Piston's
game and a trip to Washing-
ton, D.C. The essay was bas-
ed on the life and work of his
great-uncle, Dr. Henry
Krysal.
Shaarey Zedek USY will
hold their annual final ban-
quet and installation
ceremony May 17 at the
synagogue.
