"Liberty" by Peter Max

Sets Peter Max Show

Peter Max will be at the
Danielle Peleg Gallery for the
opening of his exciting new
show 7-9 p.m. May 16. Includ-
ed in the show are originals
on canvas, serigraphs and
sculptures.
Mr. Max has just returned
from Spain where he
dedicated two 150 foot murals
which he created for the U.S.
Pavillion at EXPO 1992.
Peter Max's paintings of the
Statue of Liberty reflect his
ongoing commitment to the
fight for freedom. Mr. Max
played a major role in arrang-
ing for the restoration of the
Statue of Liberty and Ellis
Island. Love and peace are
other themes recurrent in Mr.
Max's brilliantly colored
paintings. His recent work is
of hearts which symbolizes
compassion, friendship and
love.
Mr. Max, Berlin-born, inter-
nationally acclaimed artist,
was appointed official artist
for the Christopher Columbus
Quincentenary celebrating
the 500th anniversary of the
discovery of America. For
President Bush's Points of
Light Foundation, he painted
a ten by fourteen foot mural
of the American Flag.
Recently, Peter Max com-
pleted a series of 12 en-
vironmental stamps for the
United Nations. The stamps
will ,be used to raise
awareness of the importance
of the Earth Summit to be

held this June in. Rio 0.-ao
Janeiro, Brazil.
The Peter Max show will 0
continue through June 6.

open with a reception for the
artist 5:30-8:30 p.m. May 7,
which will coincide with the
1st Thursday Gallery Walk.
on North Woodward Avenue

A graduate of Wayne State
University and University of 4
Michigan, Richard Culling
also is a recipient of the John
Simon Guggenheim .g
Memorial Foundation Award
for Painting. Mr. Culling
refers to his recent work as
"Collage and Topographical
Paintings." He designs and
constructs a collage which
serves as a model from which
he paints.
In many of these works
disparate sites are juxtaposed
with one another.
