Sepharad '92 Event
Set At Adat Shalom
Playwright and raconteur
Dan Almagor and Rivka Raz,
Israel's "first lady of the
musical theatre," will present
"Sepharad '92" 7:30 p.m. May
17 at Congregation Adat
Shalom.
The original musical por-
trayal of the glory and the
pain of our Spanish Jewish
ancestors will be illustrated
with slides. It is sponsored by
the synagogue's Adult Study
Commission and chaired- by
Nancy Handelman and Paul
Magy.
Dan Almagor has appeared
in many musical plays. Six of
his productions are based on
the writings of Sephardi
Hebrew poets, and many of
his articles study the cultural
heritage of the Sephardim.
Rivka Raz has starred in
Dan Almagor's Hebrew pro-
ductions of My Fair Lady and
The King and I. Born to a
Jerusalem Sephardi family,
and speaking fluent Ladino,
Ms. Raz also starred in a
Hebrew musical written by
Israel's fifth president, Itzhak
Navon.
Ms. Raz will be accom-
panied by her son, Zachi Raz,
a graduate of the Berkelee
College of Music and the
Juilliard School of Music.
"Sepharad '92" is open to
the community; there is no
charge. Tickets may be ob-
tained at the synagogue of-
fice. For information, please
call the synagogue 851-5100.

Meanwhile, on stage every

tate which works his small
company need publish.
With such current films as
JFK and Shadows and Fog to
his credit, Ron Rifkin has
become quite the star —
after a fashion. Indeed, all
this success comes just as he
and his wife gave up their
family fashion business of
designing coats.
"We're not doing that
anymore," says Mr. Rifkin of
the business both had been
involved in for the past six
years.
Not that Mr. Rifkin had
designs on fashion as a
lifetime commitment. It was
a business where he could
hang his hat when the ac-
ting roles weren't rolling in.
Indeed, the two closed the
business because of Mr.
Rifkin's ongoing success.
"All I've ever done or want-
ed to do is act," says Mr.
