Heart Attacks
Don't Just
Happen To Men

Each year 247,000 women and
273,000 men die from heart
attacks

At Providence we take your chest pain seriously...you should too.

Chest pain has many causes. It could be your heart trying to tell you
something. Or simple indigestion. Don't give chest pain a chance
to turn into something more serious.

It's important to check out the warning signs of a heart attack
quickly—signs like pain in the chest, shoulder, arm or jaw, shortness
of breath or sweating. The newest treatments for heart attacks are
more effective if administered within the first 5 - 6 hours. -

At Providence, we just opened our new, specially designed Chest
Pain Emergency Unit—the first of its kind in the area. Its staff can
determine the source of your chest pain and quickly get you the
treatment you need in those first vital hours.

Our Chest Pain Emergency Unit physicians and nurses are trained
in emergency cardiac care procedures. And they're backed by some

of southeast Michigan's finest board-certified cardiologists and
cardiac surgeons.

Providence Hospital in Southfield provides a full range of cardiac
services: diagnostic procedures, cardiac catheterization, angio-
plasty, cardiac surgery and cardiac rehabilitation programs. Our
new 10-bed Cardiac Surgery Unit and our Coronary Care Unit are
designated to care for patients in the critical hours and days after
cardiac surgery or a heart attack. And Providence offers state-of-
the-art treatment with something extra, too—the personal care that
has been our hallmark for nearly a century and a half.

So when it's a matter of the heart, think Providence first. For more
information on the Cardiac Services programs or for a referral to a
Providence cardiologist or cardiac surgeon, call our Physician
Referral Service at 424-3999 or 1-800-968-5595.
