Paintings by Yuval Wolfson
will be featured in an exhibi-
tion at Park West Gallery,
Southfield May 1-2.
Born in Tel Aviv in 1966;
Mr. Wolfson uses a rare vision
to capture the hues of the
changing seasons and the
declining light of a day cycle.
His work is characterized by
gentle brush strokes and
vibrant, intense colors.
Neo-expressionist in con-
cept, Mr. Wolfson works not
only in his studio, but out-
doors where the actual scenes
of nature occur. He is involv-
ed in the process of printing
his editions, from the color
separations through the
preparation of inks, thus giv-
ing his own personal touch to
the printed work.
Park West Gallery is

k`Lighten Up", a show of func-
tional artist-made lighting
through May 15. Pieces range
from lamps, torchieres and
sconces to candelabra,
chandeliers and candlesticks'
in glass, metal, clay, wood and
paper.
Craft lighting dates back to
Louis Comfort Tiffany and
Frank Lloyd Wright.
"Lighten Up" will feature
the work of 12 artists, in-
cluding former Detroiter Lee
Weitzman. Since 1978, Lee
Weitzman has been designing
and producing contemporary
furniture. In his collection is
a striking wood torchiere.

ticipating North Woodward
Galleries in the downtown
Birmingham gallery district
will open new art exhibitions
6-8:30 p.m. May 7. Strolling
musicians will perform along
the avenue.
First Thursday is a coor-
dinated effort of galleries in
downtown Birmingham lo-
cated north of Maple Road on
Woodward Avenue to accom-
modate the work schedules of
art connoisseurs and patrons.
