Imm"'"" 5.15% ► No Accord May Mean Strike Tel Aviv (JTA) — A half- million Israeli public sector employees may walk off the job this week unless last- minute efforts to avert a general strike succeed. The strike was called by Histadrut's trades union department to protest delays in reaching a wage-hike agreement for employees at all levels of national and local government. It would affect clerks, academicians, engineers, hospital staffs and other workers. Shalom Granit, the Fi- nance Ministry's wage coor- dinator, was scheduled to meet with Haim Haberfeld, chairman of the trades union department, to try to reach an agreement. The two men spoke by telephone several times dur- ing the day. But as the hour of their face-to-face meeting approached„ both sides sounded pessimistic. Mr. Haberfeld said that only the signing of a new na- tional wage pact could keep the civil servants at their jobs. Adrienne Milin Lawrence Lax There is no charge for this program.
