Fox, Licensed Realtor AGE NO BARRIER TO HOME LOAN QUESTION: I am 65 years old, retired, have a large bank account and good equity in stocks and bonds. Would my age be a barrier to getting a home loan? To put it another way — when does a person become too old to obtain a mortgage? ANSWER: With certain reser- vations — never! If the real estate equity is there and the ability to repay is established, what is the difference if a per- son is 30 or 70 years of age? Each case, however, must be judged on its own individual merits. The economic age of the prop- erty, its resale value, and the borrower's ability to repay are far more important than age alone. AGE IS NO BARRIER in get ting a real estate loan. Other considerations are more important. Please Phone Ray A. New purchases only El AI Posts Profits Tel Aviv (JTA) — El Al, Israel's government-owned airline, made a remarkable recovery after the Persian Gulf War and was one of the few international air car- riers to show a profit. It earned $38.9 million in 1991 on revenues of $877.6 million, the company re- ported. That was nearly tri- ple the $14.1 million earned in 1990 when air traffic slumped badly during the prolonged crisis that preced- ed the war. Revenue was up 12 per- cent, though passenger traffic stood at 1.7 million, down 1 percent from 1990. But 177,000 tons of cargo were carried, up 5 percent from the previous year. El Al, which was put into receivership in 1982, has made an impressive com- eback, so much so that its planned privatization has been given much lower priority by the government.
