the JCC will host an exhibit,
"A Day in the Warsaw
Ghetto: A Birthday Trip in
Hell" and "Art History: The
Artist's Interpretation of the
History of the Jews."
At 9:30 p.m., the JCC will
host an Israeli-style cabaret
featuring Israeli singing duo
"The Dudaim." There is a $5
admission.
"Up All Night for the
Allied Jewish Campaign"
will include movies, sports,
games and food for teens on
May 9. There is a fee. For

On May 10, a.1 p.m. indoor
Israel street fair, including
games, exhibits, food and
crafts is scheduled for the
Maple-Drake Center follow-
ing the Walk for Israel. Also
at 1 p.m. that day is the
BBYO Basketball League
finals and a 1:30 p.m. Israel
Quiz Bowl.
A family Yom
Yerushalayim celebration is
scheduled for 2 p.m. May 31
by the Detroit Zionist Fed-
eration. A Jerusalem can-
tata will be presented as
well as slides by Sandra
Johnson Ben-Dor.
"This is an effort to
mobilize the community on
behalf of Israel," said
Shelley Milin, assistant
Campaign director. "The
walk is important to this
community. It's a real ex-
pression of commitment to
Israel. There are some peo-
ple I see only once a year,
and it's at the walk. It gives
people a feeling of solidarity
as well as support for some-
thing they believe in."
Walk co-chairman Bill
LaKritz has seen the walk
escalate in numbers from
about 3,500 to the 7,000 who
came out last year. Mr.
LaKritz added that the walk
really isn't affected much by
what is happening polit-
ically in Israel or by interna-
tional affairs affecting
Israel.
"Each year, there's been a
different political football,"
he said. "And even when the
news could be seen as
negative toward Israel,
we've still had a strong in-
crease in walkers." ❑
