Plans Workshops

A jewelry-making workshop
for children ages 5 and up,
will be held at the
Washtenaw County Jewish
Community Center May 3.
The workshop will be an op-
portunity to create necklaces,
bracelets, earrings and bar-
rettes out of clay or beads.
Materials will be provided
but participants also can
bring their old or broken bead
jewelry to recycle into new
pieces.
Two sessions will be held:
12:30-2 p.m. for ages 5 to 7
and 2:30 to 4 p.m. for ages 8
and up. Adults are also
welcome to sign up. There is
a fee for the workshop. Paid
registration must be received
at the JCC by May 1. For in-
formation, call the JCC,
971-0990.
"Instant Playhouse," a
readers theater workshop for
older adults, will be held 1-3
p.m. May 5, 12 and 19 at the
Washtenaw County JCC.
The workshop is designed to
provide the experience of get-
ting into a character for those
who prefer not to perform for
an audience. Workshop par-
ticipants will work on short
scenes for a limited time and
then present them for others
in the group. They will use
only rudimentary scenery
and a semblance of
costuming.
This workshop will be led
by four members of a local
"Onstage Live" troupe, Ruth-
mary Cohen, Naomi Donald-
son, Pat Nissen and Mary
Alice Stearna.
A workshop on tie-dying for
young people ages 6 to 10 will
be held 1-2:30 p.m. May 17 at
the JCC. Under the direction
of Margie Torres, young peo-
ple will create one-of-a-kind
wearable art. Participants
should bring their own T-
shirts, shorts and tank tops.
There is a fee for the
workshop. Registration in ad-
vance is required. For infor-
mation, call the JCC,
971-0990.
