"I like to have interaction with the audience because that's what makes it most exciting for me. Some- times I take requests." At the Fox, he included vignettes about composer and once-Detroiter Richard Whi- ting ("Hooray for Hollywood" and "Too Marvelous for Words"). Interaction in Detroit always takes on a personal note for the singer/pianist, who has relatives in the metro area. His aunt, Bette Cohen of Bloomfield Hills, and cousins are sure to attend his shows and entertain him after rehearsals. Mr. Feinstein's interest in music was born in his home- town — Columbus, Ohio — where he began playing the piano by ear at age 5. He was great!" After graduating from high school, Mr. Feinstein worked as an accompanist for Ohio State University dance classes and played at restaurant bars. In 1976, he moved to Cali- fornia, where he worked six years with Ira Gershwin, cataloging records, sheet music, unpublished manu- scripts and treasured memen- tos. His performances at Ger- shwin parties led to invita- tions that propelled his career. One invitation, which took him to a 1985 party honoring the Reagans, was the beginn- C/
