"There was no previous ex-
perience to learn from," says
Mr. Hirt, who had never even
been to St. Thomas when he
accepted the new position.
"Everything was trial and er-
ror."
"There were lots of
technical problems associated
with putting a tower into the
sea," continues the manager,
taking a rare break to relax
in Coral World's cafe and
restaurant which overlooks
the. Atlantic Ocean.
The Coral World concept is
unique, he says. "It's an open
system, pumping water from
the sea without adding any-
thing; we create as close as
possible a true ocean environ-
ment."
Visitors can explore this
ocean environment the way
scuba divers can because of
its underwater site. "We
enable those who are not
divers — and most people are
not — to see the ocean 20 feet
below sea level," he says.
There is much to see: Coral
World boasts the largest
Caribbean reef tank in the
world. Coral World is, there-
fore, home to a vast assort-
ment of underwater species:
clown fish, morays, lobster,
Indo-Pacific fish, octopus, and
the rare paracilus barbatus,
the only species of its kind in
captivity in the world.
One of the highlights of a
visit here is watching the dai-
ly feedings in the circular
tank of the aquarium where
seawater circulates constant-
ly. As visitors press against
the glass of the tank, they
watch the feeder, dressed in
slick underwater gear, who
stands in the water with a
breathing tube; the fish
gather around and literally
eat out of her hand.
"Wow! Look how fast that
one moves!" exclaims one
visitor.
"Look — a flying fish!" says
another, as cameras click and
visitors watch bright-colored
fish of all shapes and hues
swirling around rapidly and
gobbling up the food in
seconds.
Besides the aquarium and
the underwater observatory,
there are other natural at-
tractions at Coral World
which is, indeed, an entire
world of water and land.
Visitors can stroll along stone
pathways with waterfalls, or
they can visit the habitat of
exotic tropical birds.
They also can visit the sea
turtle pool and watch the
green sea turtles, which were
hatched in December 1984.
These are sights that Ariel
Hirt has been experiencing
ever since he left Israel in
1988. He's still intrigued by
what he sees every day.

How Does It Work?

By suspending rare earth magnets in-
to the jewelry, it creates a magnetic
field. When the human bloodstream
passes through the field, it stimulates
the bloodstream and nerves while rais-
ing the blood oxygen level to promote
the health of every cell. In controlled
tests in Japan and Germany, patients
complaining of headaches, fatigue,
cramps, neck and back pains, asthma,
arthritis, showed a 68-82%
improvement.
