Adam kids around with his mom, Harriet.

"I planned on going in at
around 200 pounds since I
didn't think there would be
as many collegiates to com-
pete against," he said. "I
was the only one from MSU.
Nobody wanted to compete
against me." All
bodybuilders are ranked ac-
cording to weight and are
weighed before competition.
Builders between 165-176
qualify as lightweight.
Builders between 176-198
qualify as middleweight.
Those weighing more than
198 are heavyweight.

Mr. Schlecter now plans to
rest for awhile.
"My ultimate goal is the
Mr. Olympian show, then
maybe Mr. Universe," he
said, "so I spend a good part

of every day in a gym in East
Lansing.
Mr. Schlecter doesn't
smoke, drink or go to wild
parties. "That's just looking
for trouble," he said.
He doesn't believe in drugs
or in quick, over-the-counter
weight loss products. "I
won't even eat if there's
smoke in the room," he said.
His efforts have paid off in
inches.
The circumference of Mr.
Schlecter's legs measure 30
inches. His arms measure 20
inches. His waist is 29 in-
ches, his chest 50 inches.
"I'm finally getting my
name out," he said. "That's
one of the most important
aspects of the sport. It's
satisfying when your work
starts to really pay off." Li
