Maxine Berman, Michigan State representative, and Mark E. Schlussel, president of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, will be the speakers at the May 3 gala dinner dance celebrating Congregation B'nai David's 100th anniversary. Rep. Berman is from Michigan's 64th district, which includes Southfield and Lathrup Village. A mem- ber of Congregation B'nai David, she serves on the board of the Jewish Voca- tional Service and is a mem- ber of Hadassah, National Council of Jewish Women, Jewish Historical Society and the National Association of Jewish Legislators. Mr. Schlussel, an attorney with Miller, Canfield, Pad- dock and Stone, sits on the boards of the United Jewish Foundation and Jewish Federation Apartments. Mr. Schlussel also has served in a leadership role at Akiva Hebrew Day School and Sinai Hospital and was president of the -Detroit Chapter of the Jewish National Fund. In celebration of B'nai David's centennial, anniver- sary committee chairwomen Blanche Brant and Helen Brown are planning a weekend of festivities April 30-May 3. A gala cantorial concert will take place April 30. Schlussel Berman Young Adults Hear Political Talk "Shaping our Future Through Political Action!' will be the topic of a program sponsored by Jewish Federa- tion Young Adult Division Political Awareness Commit- tee 7:30 p.m. April 26 at Adat Shalom Synagogue. The presentation will feature Doug Ross, former Michigan state senator and director of Michigan Depart- ment of Commerce, the Mich- igan Youth Corps, Project Self-Reliance and the Gover- nor's Task Force on a long- term economic strategy for Michigan. Mr. Ross is president of Michigan Future, Inc., a think-tank focusing on the state's economic and social future. He also serves as senior consultant to the Cor- poration of Enterprise Development, which specializes in economic development and human in- vestment strategies. The series is being organiz- ed by Ronald Klein and Doug Ross Suzanne Gildenberg, chairmen of the YAD Political Awareness Committee, and Nathan Upfal, vice-president of YAD. There is a charge.
