Dutch Moslems
Launch Protest

Amsterdam (JTA) —
About 300 local Moslems
marched to the Israeli Em-
bassy in The Hague last
week to protest the oppres-
sion of Palestinians by Israel
and call for "a free
Jerusalem."
The marchers, who were
escorted by police, included
many women wearing tradi-
tional Arab garb and chil-
dren bearing portraits of the
late Ayatollah Ruhollah
Khomeini of Iran.
They belong to the Vandet
Mosque in The Hague and,
according to their spokes-
man, they were acting on an
appeal by Iran to protest
against Israel during the
last week of the monthlong
Moslem fast of Ramadan.
A large cordon of Dutch
riot police protected the em-
bassy. The demonstrators
shouted, "Death to Israel"
and "Death to the United
States." But no violence was
reported.
Some local Jewish groups
objected, however. Jewish
congregations and the
Center for Documentation
and Information on Israel
wrote to Foreign Minister
Hans van den Broek ques-
tioning the right of a foreign
country, Iran, to incite
against a friendly state,
Israel, in the Netherlands.

Does the thought of future
complications with your (or a
loved one's) breast implants
concern you?

Jerusalem (JTA) — A
highly touted new ointment
supposed to prevent trans-
mission of the virus that
causes AIDS has turned out
to be nothing more than
snake oil.
But for three days Israelis
glowed with pride, believing
they were in the forefront of
scientific advances against
the deadly disease.
The product, Gel-X, de-
veloped by H.G. Pollak, a
local pharmaceutical com-
pany, was banned from the
market last week by the
Health Ministry.
The cure-all turned out to
be an old product, Pedicat,
which has been used for 15
years to lubricate catheters,
the Israeli daily Yediot
Achronot reported.
The manufacturer added
disinfectant, gave it a new
name and wrapping, and
tried to impress the stock
market, the newspaper said.
After the initial announce-
ment, Pollak shares soared
by 10 percent on the Tel
Aviv Stock Exchange.
