has renovated a room in her
Farmington Hills house to
serve as her office.
The office is equipped with
a copier, personal computer,
phone, and stamping machine
for billings; but its main
feature is a wall bedecked
with banners. Some hail from
Brandeis, Yale, M.I.T. — some
from Columbia, University of
Michigan and elsewhere.
Mrs. Dworkin explains that
her students often send these
mementos along with their
thanks for her help.
Indeed, most of Mrs.
Dworkin's students have
moved out of their homes, but
she plans to stay in hers.
"I've thought of expanding
into an outside office, but I
like it out of my home," she
said. "And the kids adore it."
Gayle Harte also began a
business out of her home.
Married and the mother of
two young daughters, Ms.
Harte loved to entertain at
her Huntington Woods home.
She especially loved to cook.
Her gourmet chocolate
earned rave reviews among
her friends who began asking
her if they could purchase it.

two kitchens in her home to
an official place of work.
The incipient venture was a
success. Orders piled up, and
in 1980, one year after she
started, Ms. Harte became a
licensed chocolate manufac-
turer. The license enabled her
to sell her product to
businesses. Today, she
operates Gayle's Chocolates
in Royal Oak and
Birmingham.
The road to success,
however, hasn't been easy.
"It's been difficult being a
woman in business, because
people look at you as a house-
wife — especially when you
make candy. But it's fun, and
every once in a while, I
remember how lucky I am. At
least I can call the shots. I
have control," she said. ❑
