has a four-page profile of
Hanan Ashrawi: the lone
woman in the Palestinian
delegation to the Middle
East peace talks and,
"arguably," says author
Ann Louis Bardach, " the
most powerful woman in the
Arab world."
On the whole, Ms. Bardach
is not neutral toward Ms.
Ashwrawi. The Palestinian,
she writes, "glibly equates
the hardship and disposses-
sion of the Palestinians,
however terrible, with the
murder of 6 million Jews."
And after citing Ms.
Ashrawi's assertions that
east Jerusalem must be the
capital of a future Palestin-
ian state, Ms. Bardach states
that the American-trained
college dean "neglects to
mention that the West
Bank, Gaza and east
Jerusalem were occupied
only after the Israelis were
under attack by their
neighbors (during the 1967
Six Day War) and Nasser
had threatened to wipe
Israel off the face of the ear-
th."
