Beth El Hosts
Beate Klarsfeld

Beate Klarsfeld will be the
speaker at Temple Beth El's
Shabbat services and Yom
HaShoah commemoration 8
p.m. May 1 at the temple.
A Christian, born Beate
Kunzel in Berlin in 1939, she
learned of the Holocaust
following her marriage to
Serge Klarsfeld, a Parisian
Jew whose father had perish-
ed in Auschwitz. With that
knowledge came her mission,
to make the criminals of the
past known to the world and
to see them punished for their
crimes.
Her efforts have focused
world attention on the past
and brought her honors such
as the Chevalier of the French
Legion of Honor, the Jabotin-
sky Prize and the Wallenberg
Award. She has been Israel's
nominee for the Nobel Peace
Prize on three occasions and
her story was portrayed on
American television.
For information, call Bar-
bara Grant, 851-1100.
