and Harold Black . . . with
congrats on their 50th an-
niversary . . . The native
Detroiters living in Bethesda,
Md., celebrate their biggie
tonight with almost 100 at
Mario's on Second as family
and friends join them from
New York to California .. .

Harbor . . . One of the owners,
Norm LePage, now owns all
the Norm's restaurants .. .
Rikshaw Inn in Orchard Mall
with high distinction of being
chosen as ethnic restaurant

Rotisseurs gourmet society
dinner . . . "Recession" in the
restaurant business, but good
restaurateurs weathering the
storm.
Owners so thrilled at 10th
anniversary of Western Beef
Buffet that they put every-
thing on the menu half-price
for that day . . . Bosses Jack
Cochran and son Gary
Cochran now own Beau
Jack's . . . Only nine tables at
Benno's in Indian Village off
E. Jefferson with dinner at
6:30 and 8:30 by reservation
only . . . Even if the place was
empty you still needed a
reservation . . . Today, owner
Benno Steinborn has Benno's
in Royal Oak and is a teeny
bit more lenient . . . Best
delicatessens in the country
at the same time, Max's,
Katz's, Billy's, Darbys, North-
gate, Stage, Irv's, Embers,
Sol's, Esquire, Gold Star, Mar-
ty's, Brothers, Gordon's, Hy
Horenstein's, Lou's, The
Bagel and others . . . in a
class by themselves when it
came to cooking corned beef
. . . Today, metropolitan De-
troit's array of delis still
ranks among the nation's
best.
Cantonese food for folks los-
ing weight was the new "in"
thing at Hoa Kow on Nine
Mile in Oak Park . . . lbday,
with fish big on the low-
calorie countings, Hoa Kow
serves about 700 pounds of
whitefish weekly . . . Top
after-hours spot in Detroit,
