Ivory Tower?

What's the matter with
kids today? In an Esquire
poll of 1,000 college
students, more than 57 per-
cent said they don't wish
they were in college during
the 1960s and 3.8 percent
never even heard of
Woodstock.
But these kids do have
some redeeming qualities:
Seventy-three percent
believe in God, and 59 per-
cent said God is neither male
nor female.
Unfortunately, these
tendencies toward some
form of enlightened deism
were offset by responses to
which of five groups about
which they would be likely
to tell "a hilarious, but
offensive joke:"
Seventy percent of the
male respondents listed
gays, 52 percent listed
blacks, 58 percent listed
Jews, 48 percent listed the
disabled and 67 percent
listed Poles.

Tel Aviv (JTA) — There is
one divorce for every four
new marriages in Israel, ac-
cording to a study just
published by the Israeli
Family Relations Associ-
ation.
That comes out to over
5,000 divorces a year, which
is a 120 percent increase
over 1975, when the divorce
rate was 10 percent the rate
of marriages.
The study was released in
advance of the first interna-
tional conference on divorce
and remarriage, to be held in
Jerusalem at the end of
March.
It showed that divorce in
Israel has reached the level
of Western society in gen-
eral, though it is still half
the rate in the United States
and a third of that in the
Scandinavian countries.
The research, by Professor
Yochanan Peres of Tel Aviv
University, disclosed a huge
gap between the sexes with
respect to the chance of
remarriage after divorce.
