Taking serious measures to guarantee that the Israelis will not be handicapped for lack of food supplies, and that the vital industrial plants should not be forced to halt their normal opera- tions, a two-way program of action has been instituted : a strong effort to secure large additional sums for the United Jewish Appeal's Israel Emergency Fund through the Allied Jewish Campaign, and increased activities for the sale of Israel Bonds which provide for the Jewish State's activities outside military fields. The services in all synagogues this Saturday will be de- voted to appeals for these two purposes and requests will be made for immediate payments of pledges made to the Allied Jewish Campaign, for the Israel Emergency Fund and for ex- tended Israel Bond purchases. Phillip Stollman, chairman of the annual Israel Bond dinner to be held Monday at Cobo Hall, said it is hoped that the $2,000,- 000 mark will be reached in Bond sales. Israel's Triumph .. . "The women, the children, the old people, all of whom are suffering because of the cut-off of government participation in welfare programs for immigrants or because the breadwinner is now in the armed ser- vices, need our help. "Many of the people in Israel are those who all too recently have known unspeakable horror and persecution, and are just now beginning to make a place for themselves in a homeland. We cannot let these people suffer more." Safran said that every penny which is contributed to the Israel Emergency Fund' would go immediately overseas.
