vice is desperate for fur-
nishings in good condition.
In the month of February
we received 64 new Jewish
Americans. By this month's
end we will have received 89.
That's 153 beds that we need-
ed in a two-month period. It's
also 153 chairs to sit in and
eat a meal, 152 place-settings
of dishes, 153 towels, wash-
cloths, sets of sheets. The list
goes on.
I was surprised to find
copies of this editorial placed
inside all the prayerbooks at
Temple Emanu-El last Shab-
bat. Rabbi Steinger and Tem-
ple President Bea Sacks both
spoke about the shande and
the need.
Pidyon Shvu'im (redeeming
the captives) is the most im-
portant mitzvah. After we've
redeemed them, let's find

`Jewish Myths'
Were Enlightening

Accept my compliments for
the most enlightening and in-
formative pages titled
"Jewish Myth Information"
in the March 20 Jewish News.
I thoroughly enjoyed the
"popular misconceptions
about Judaism" and am sure
that every Jewish person who
perused the article got as big
a kick out of it as I did.
Print more of the same.
Your readers will appreciate
knowing about other Jewish
myths.

Dershowitz Speaks
At Temple Israel

Harvard Law Professor
Alan Dershowitz will appear
5:30 p.m. April 12 at Temple
Israel. The forum is sponsored
by Temple Israel and the
American-Israel Education
Institute and is underwritten
by several members of both
organizations and the Dr.
Robert Goldberg Memorial
Fund of Temple Israel. Pro-
ceeds will benefit the
American Israel Education
Institute and Temple Israel's
Educational and Community
Programs.
Mr. Dershowitz will speak
on "Daring To Be Jewish in
America." The title reflects
one of the themes of Professor
Dershowitz's
Chutzpah,
which was critical of Jewish
Americans for their alleged

lack of assertiveness in sup-
port of Jewish issues.

Leon and Esther Halpern of West Bloomfield recently pledged a
woodland of 3,000 trees in honor of the 25th wedding anniversaries
of their children, Sarah and Eric Gordon and Edie and Irvin
Gastman. This woodland, under the auspices of Jewish National
Fund, will be planted in the Polish Jewry Memorial Forest in the
Judean Hills.
