menu with a lot of items for
diversified tastes.
WILL IT BE Johnny
Mathis? . . . Or who? . . .
Nothing is for sure until a
contract is signed, and so the
featured attraction for
Michigan Cancer Founda-
tion's 10th annual dinner
May 9 at the Palace of
Auburn Hills, remains a
mystery.
For sure Tim Hoy and Ham-
mel Music in Livonia will
donate the warmup act,
talented multidimensional
pianist Pierre Fracalanza
who sounds like an entire or-
chestra with his computeriz-
ed keyboards.
MCF has already raised
almost $280,000 and invita-
tions haven't even gone out
yet.
Also for sure are a few sur-
prises in store for honorary
chairpersons Dave and
Doreen Hermelin . . . Dinner
co-chairfolks are Gene and
Marcia Applebaum and Ran-
dy and Judy Agley.

SAM ZAWIDEH'S Dad 'Z
Chicken will have four places
by this summer . . . The
rotisserie-grilled Amish
chicken is aleady at Dad 'Z
carry-outs in Keego Harbor
and Lake Orion . . . Next to
open will be in Traverse City
and at Newberry Plaza on 14
Mile and Haggerty.

GET WELL WISHES ...

to Max Gurman . . . recover-
ing from heart bypass surgery
after playing tennis at the
Beverly Hills Tennis Club in
California . . . Max and wife
Betty live in Florida . . .
11930 W. Bay Shore Dr., Apt.
402, North Miami Beach, Fla.
33181 . . . Max is a former
local tennis champion and
now a topnotcher on the
Super Senior Circuit . . . He
and localite Frank Winton
are doubles champions on the
tour.

REUNION DEPT. ...
40th by Central High class of
1952 is Nov. 7 at Hotel
Baronette in Novi . . . For
more info, call Adrienne
Goldberg at 547-2044.

NEXT COMES Seros of
Lapeer, formerly Marlins, on
Main Street in downtown
Lapeer . . . The new
restaurant by Jim Bowers,
Lucky Vasilakis and George
Brecolis will be a 6,500-footer
that'll open some time in May
. . . This will be Seros number
five . . . They're presently in
Southfield, Royal Oak, Mt.
Clemens and Rochester.
JAX KAR WASH owners
Bruce and Tony Milan pro-
bably know it, but rest
assured that at least a couple
of their places are being well
taken care of . . . While dad
Jack enjoys the good life in

Florida, Bruce and Tony are
running a well-oiled ship.
Woodward and 11 Mile in
Royal Oak has Dennis
Kowalski, manager seven
years at the location, which
recently also put in a mini-
mart . . . On 10 Mile east of
Greenfield, Kit Davalia took
over as manager when Den-
nis was moved after nine
years, and has done an ad-
mirable job . . . Both are
masters at that personal
touch and still grab rags to
wipe spots or water missed by
their employees . . . Seems
like everybody knows Sue
Thomason, cashier umpteen
years for Jax on 10 Mile, who
makes friends with everybody
for one reason . . . she loves
people.

JOHNNY TRUDELL'S
Jazz Group with Sandra
Mandella is every Wednesday
9 p.m. at Arriva Italia
Ristorante's 12th Street
downstairs on E. 12 Mile in
Warren . . . Larry Nozero
comes in April 29-May 2.
ANOTHER AWARD to
Golden Mushroom . . . the
hall leading up from its
Mushroom Cellar to the main
dining rooms on 10 Mile west
of Southfield is filled with
framed accolades.
This time it's again Master
Chef Milos Cihelka, chef
patron and co-owner with
Reid Ashton . . . Milos recent-
ly received the American
Culinary Federation's "Cen-
tral Region 1992 Chef Of The
Year" award . . . Only one
winner is chosen from among
the 15 states in the Central
Region who each nominate a
chef to be given the honor.
BY THE WAY, did you
know that Michigan has more
practicing master chefs than
any other state? .. .
LOOKING BACK on col-
umns of yesteryears .. .
May 14,1948 . . . "Al Stein,
haberdashery salesman,
could probably retire from
work . . . if he were able to col-
lect on all the I.O.U.'s he
garnered during foxhole gam-
ing while in service . . . He
still has stacks of them at
home . . . but only as memen-
tos of the war . . . and of the
boys who never came home
. . . Al was one of only five
fellows from his original pla-
toon of 60 to return .. .
July 22, 1949 ... "Young
couple, Al and Sarah
Rosenberg, have watched
themselves become 'window-
sill grandparents' . . . The two
pigeons who adopted the
Rosenberg home on Clements
as their own became proud
parents of a healthy litter of
more mouths for Al and
Sarah to feed . . . mother and
baby pigeons are doing fine,
thank you." ❑
