Temple Israel Plans A Sephardic Concert Fact is, more Americans may die by the fork than by any other weapon. That's because so many of them use it irresponsibly. Like to fill up on high-fat, high- cholesterol foods. Foods that can load the blood with cholesterol, which can build up plaque in their arteries, increasing their risk of heart attacks and threaten- ing their lives. So next time you pick up a fork, remem- ber to handle it as you would any other weapon. For self-defense, not self-destruction. American Heart Association WERE FIGHTING FOR YOUR LIFE This space provided as a public service. "A Salute to the Grandeur and Glory of Spanish Jewry" will be celebrated 8 p.m. March 31 at Temple Israel at its Jonathan P. Miller Memorial Concert. Com- memorating the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492, a new oratorio, "Ever Since Babylon," has been commis- sioned and will feature four soloists, two narrators, mixed chorus and chamber orchestra. The Spanish Consul Gener- al, Joaquin Ma. de Aristegui, will represent his government as they rescind the 500-year- old edict, which went into ef- fect on March 31, 1492. This concert is sponsored by the Detroit Jewish Commit- tee of Sepharad '92, compris- ed of the Agency for Jewish Education; American Jewish Committee, Detroit Chapter; Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit; the Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan Detroit; the Jewish Federation of Metro- politan Detroit and the Sephardic Community of Metropolitan Detroit. Among the soloists involv- ed, is Cantor Richard Allen, a baritone with the Reform Congregation Keneseth Is- rael in Elkins Park, Pa. Alicia Hunter, mezzo- soprano, is a native Detroiter who received her musical training at the University of Michigan where she appeared in various operas.
