act the role of a rich man, and I played it well." Such role-playing worked. Not only were Manfred's pain- tings shown in the Victor Gallery, but also in the prestigious Carimour Gallery, owned by Israeli Joseph Melamed. He came to Ontario to visit his brother, Helmut, a Kit- chener resident. "When I visited him, I met Marie-France Gillet, the owner of Kitchener's Brit- tany Restaurant, which serves gourmet French cuisine and exhibits the works of local artists on its walls," he said. "My brother was the best customer. My brother introduced us. We are now married." Manfred Heine-Baux is and has been a success as an impressionist artist in Canada. "Heine-Baux is considered important in both the Euro- pean and American markets, having exhibited with Dali and Chagall in several places. No one is do- ing impressionism like he is," said Toronto area gallery director Barry Dia- mond. The artist has his sights set on the American art scene. From the Ann Arbor fair, he plans to participate in fairs in Detroit, Chicago, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Florida. And during these trips, he plans to study the best place to establish a future gallery. Odell prig 6 E75% OFF THURS. • FRI. • SAT. and MON.
