Immature

Continued from preceding page

Hefner? A nubile bride is hard-
ly an elixir when you're pack-
ing a middle-aged paunch.

Older women are more realis-
tic. Yes, they've known failed re-
lationships. Who of us that has
risked, has not? But in failure's
wake comes wisdom. Women
who have taken their lumps
have shed the Great Expecta-
tions that doom many young
couples.
Older women can better ap-
preciate a good man. This is es-
pecially true of a woman whose
clock will soon strike 30, 40 or
50. There's nothing like a mile-
stone to inspire a woman to re-
flect on the qualities that truly
matter: decency and intimacy.
With the above points firmly
in mind, you may find it in-
structive to learn how single
women feel about older men:
Women prefer mates they
won't have to bury. As Sally told
Harry, you do the arithmetic.
Quality women want peers,
not father figures. When they see
a man habitually dating down,
words like "immature" come

saking tradition in favor of an

evergrowing pool of younger
men who are caring and re-
freshingly open.
With luck, these sobering
facts have inspired you to see the
light.
Open your eyes, and you'll dis-
cover hundreds of Rachels and
Rebeccas, singular Daughters of
Israel in midlife prime, looking
to share their experience, their
love, and their lives with mature
men their own age.
So grow up. Toss that Dixie
cup, and explore the seasoned
charms of a woman of your own
vintage, or even riper. Should
you prove husband enough for
her, she'll be all the wife you
need. ❑

a man who, at 40, has never
married. "I'll date a bachelor
who's over 40," says an attrac-
tive divorcee, "but I can't imag-
ine marrying one."
Her concerns are well-found-
ed. According to research pre-
sented in August at the
American Psychological Associ-
ation, many bachelors over 40
are at risk for serious psycho-
logical problems. Two-thirds say
they intend to tie the knot some-
day. Yet of all never-married
men over 40, fewer than one in
eight ever does. The bachelors
studied tended to have "distort-
ed views of the world."
And ponder the revolution in
women's choice that's quietly
been shifting the odds in their
favor: More than 30 percent of

women of age 25 and older now
marry men younger than they.
If you can stomach the details,

How Women are Finding and
Enjoying a Better Relationship.
