Mrs. Brant has been a member of B'nai David for 30 years. She has served on the executive board of the sisterhood in many capacities, including president. Mrs. Brown has been a B'nai David member for 25 years. An active sisterhood member, she served as presi- dent for four years. Both women are members of B'nai David's New Building Steering Committee and have served on the synagogue's Israel Bond Din- ner and Jewish " National Fund Brunch committees. In celebration of B'nai David's centennial, the chair- women are planning a weekend of festivities April 30-May 30. Events include: a cantorial concert April 30 followed by an afterglow social; Shabbat dinner and Oneg May 1 hosted by the B'nai David Young Leader- ship; services dedicated to the children of the congregation May 2; and dinner dance celebration May 3 honoring all past presidents. Formington Hills 851-3883 Adat Shalom Synagogue will hold its annual family megillah reading 7 p.m. March 18. Synagogue teen-agers will read the megillah. Children are urged to wear Purim costumes. Youngsters will receive groggers, and there will be refreshments. Reading the megillah this year will be Owen Alterman, Bradley Dock, Yaneev Golom- bek, Jeremy Gordon, _Erica Guyer, Mara Leichtman, Jeremy Lubin, Sarah Tigay and Aaron Weiss. Charles Ornstein, Wendy Betel and Rachel Lawson will introduce the readings. Rabbi David Ellenson will be scholar-in-residence at Temple Israel in honor of Teachers' Sabbath, March 13-15. The weekend's theme will be "Quest for Spirituali- ty." Rabbi Ellenson will address the congregation on "Teaching — A Traditional Role in Contemporary Times" 8 p.m. March 13. At Saturday morning services, Rabbi Ellenson will speak on themes relating to Purim and Passover. Following services, at a luncheon and workshop, he will focus on "The Hag- gadah — Traditional and Reform Practices." Rabbi Ellenson will speak at a Brotherhood breakfast 9:30 a.m. March 15. His topic will be "American Judaism in the Year 2001." A native of Brookline, Mass:, David Ellenson was graduated from the College of William and Mary and then earned advanced degrees at the University of Virginia, at Hebrew Union College (where he was ordained in 1976) and at Columbia University. He is the author of two books that concentrate on the development of contemporary Orthodox Judaism. This weekend has been made possible by a contribu- tion from Bernice and Dr. Allen Berlin. Memory Lane Event Planned The Centennial Committee of Beth Abraham Hillel Moses will sponsor a "Trip Down Memory Lane" 11:30 a.m. March 29. Planned are a guided bus tour through old Jewish Detroit and a visit and walk through some past homes of Beth Abraham Hillel Moses. Buses will depart and return to the synagogue. The cost includes a snack. For reservations by March 20, call Risha Rothberger, 489-5426. Purim Plans At Beth El Temple Beth El's megillah reading will be 7 p.m. March 18. Costumed clergy and par- ticipants from the Married Group and Young People's Society will perform skits in keeping with the holiday. A costume parade will precede the service and refreshments will follow.
