BACKGROUND: Lezlie Light grew up in Southfield and attended public schools. Since her mother was a travel agent, she had the opportunity to visit many places all over the United States and Latin America. She traveled to Israel at 16. After high school, she attended Wayne State University. In 1980, she married Stuart Light. Three years later they began a family. While raising her two toddlers, she decided to do something for self-improvement. "I thought I needed to exercise. I thought karate would be good because it's physical and self-defense is good to know." In the beginning, her primary focus was exercise. She went to Carbone's Academy three times a week and enjoyed the philosophy. She kept progressing in her training and realized how karate helped stress reduction. "It taught me how to focus and concentrate on what I was doing!" After four years of training and practicing, she became a black belt. She now is an instructor at Carbone's. She finds the job exciting and fulfilling because there is always something new to learn, and it's helpful in everyday living. "It started out as a hobby and turned into a lifestyle!' she said. 111 1 LOCAL NEWS 6.1 rum Alyn Hospital Elections Held Detroit Friends of Alyn Hospital of Jerusalem recent- ly elected officers and board members for 1992.
