for the spring segment of its
1991-92 series in a concert 8
p.m. March 4 at the Grosse
Pointe Unitarian Church,
featuring the Johnny Trudell
quintet and vocalist Sandra
Mandella.
The theme for the concert
has been termed "a string of
musical pearls." Mr. Trudell
has selected music from the
standard repertoire of popular
and jazz classics by the
leading American composers
and lyricists.
Other concerts in the series
will feature the George Ben-
son quintet with Judy Cochill
April 1, and Jimmy Wilkins'

The McKinney Reunion
jazz group will appear in
-Southfield's Concerts in the
Garden series 10:30 a.m.
March 1 at the Sheraton
Hotel Southfield, 16400 J.L.
Hudson Drive.
They will play American
jazz classics, the music of
George Gershwin, Duke Ell-
ington, Fats Waller, Victor
Young, among others, as well
as their own original composi-
tions. Members of the group
include Harold McKinney,
acoustic piano; Ray McKin-
ney, bass; Michele McKinney,
vocal and percussion; and
Gayelynn McKinney on
drums.

reserved seating and con-
tinental breakfast or for con-
cert and coffee only. Call

String Quartet
Plays Concert

The Turtle Island String
Quartet, re-routing modern
jazz, bebop, bluegrass, Indian
music, world music and
Classicism through its own
work, will make its debut 8
p.m. March 6 in Detroit's Or-
chestra Hall.
TISQ features Darol Anger,
violin and baritone violin;
David Balakrishnan, violin;
Katrina Wreede, viola and
violin; and Mark Summer,
cello.
Their repertoire ranges
from Dizzy Gillespie to Robert
Johnson's classic blues to
original compositions.
Tickets for the March 6 per-
formance are available
through the Orchestra Hall
