Tamarac, Fla., died Jan. 29.
He is survived by his wife,
Charlotte; daughter and son-
in-law, Barbara and Jerrold
Gross; five grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren.

ANN TARNOPOL, 82, of
Southfield, died Feb. 25. She
leaves her daughters and a
son-in-law, Barbara and
Ronald Cohen of West Bloom-
field, Charna "Cookie"
Lawrence Auster of Avon, Ct.;
daughter-in-law, Sandra; 14
grandchildren; two great-
grandchildren.

Sol Iwrey, 65,
Of Steel Firm

Sol Iwrey, 65, of Southfield,
died Feb. 19.
He was president of
McNichols Steel, which was
founded in 1926 by his father,
David Iwrey. He retired in
1989 and was a member of
Congregation Shaarey Zedek,
the Jewish War Veterans and
a collector of modern glass
art.
He leaves his wife, Sylvia;
daughters and a son-in-law,
Leslie and John Galavan of
Redmond, Wash., Karen of
Del Mar, Calif.; parents,
David and Ida of West Bloom-
field; brothers and sisters-in-
law, Seymour and Sonora,
Alvin and Deborah; two
granddaughters.

Earl G. Grant, 63,
Scrap Metal Broker

Earl G. Grant, 63, of Bloom-
field Hills, died Feb. 25.
He was president of Grant-
Mackenzie Scrap Metal Com-
pany until it was sold in 1976.
He was president and founder
of Earl Grant Co., Steel and
Scrap Brokers.
He was chairman of
Industrial AutomotiveDivi-
sion of Allied Jewish
Campaign.
He was also a board
member of the Jewish Federa-
tion, Tamarack Hills Authori-
ty and the Detroit Service
Group and a past president of
the former Standard Club.
He leaves his wife, Diane;
sons and a daughter-in-law,
Dr. Steven and Marci of West
Bloomfield; Dr. Allan of West
Bloomfield; four grandsons.

Jacob Sundelson,
Ford Executive

Jacob Wilner Sundelson,
83, of Ann Arbor, died Feb. 21.
He was the regional ex-
ecutive of European opera-

tions for Ford Motor Co. Inter-
national Group until he
retired in 1965. From 1965
until 1968, he was director of
international relations for
Conductron Corp. of Ann Ar-
bor. He received his doctorate
at Columbia University in
economics and taught at Col-
umbia and Rutgers. He was
director of Lend Lease for
Western Europe after World
War II.
He leaves his wife,
Charlotte; son and daughter-
in-law, David and Lisa of
Berkley, Calif.; daughter and
son-in-law, Eve and Frank
Barron of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five
grandchildren.

Esther Sherr
Retired Teacher

Esther Sherr, of West
Bloomfield, died Feb. 24.
She was a retired teacher
with the Detroit school
system. She was a three-time
past president of Louis D.
Brandeis Chapter of B'nai
B'rith, a member of Hadassah
and Northwest Child Rescue.
In 1932 she helped write the
handwriting manual for
Detroit Public Schools, still
used today. She was a past
board member of Congrega-
tion Adat Shalom Sisterhood
and did extensive volunteer
work for Sinai Hospital.
She leaves her sons and
daughters-in-law, Ronald and
Linda of West Bloomfield,
Paul and Rita of West Bloom-
field, a brother and sister-in-
law, Albert and Merry Silber
of Birmingham; five grand-
daughters.

Abraham Harman
Of Hebrew U.
Jerusalem (JTA) — Abra-
ham Harman, a former
Israeli ambassador to the
United States and for many
years president and later
chancellor of the Hebrew
University, died Feb. 25 at
age 77.
Dr. Harman, who was born
in London in 1914 and earn-
ed a law degree at Oxford
University, was a veteran
Zionist activist. He joined
the Israeli foreign service as
soon as the Jewish state was
founded in 1948. A year
later, he was appointed
Israel's consul general in
Montreal.
In 1953, Harman became
consul general in New York.
He was named ambassador
to the United States in 1959,
a post he held until 1968,
when he accepted the presi-
dency of Hebrew University.
Dr. Harman was also ac-
tive in the Soviet Jewry
movement.

During the coming week Yeshiva Beth Yehudah will observe the yahrtzeits of the following departed friends, with
the traditional memorial prayers, recitation of kaddish and studying of mishnayos.
