Activities are geared to a camper's ability to be suc- cessful and are structured to encourage positive interac- tion between peers. These in- clude horseback riding, swim- ming, boating, arts and crafts, nature appreciation, sports and camping trips. The campers share, to some degree, one or more of the following characteristics: dif- ficulty in following adult in- structions or expectations, difficulty in accepting respon- sibility for their behavior, dif- ficulty in getting along with peers and functioning in a group, lack of self-confidence or fear of new situations. Many of these campers are in special education classes in school. Silverman Village accepts 35 boys and girls to each of its three sessions. The staff is drawn from students in special education or related fields. The food service is kosher. A learning center offers computers, educational videos, cooking activities, and newspaper writing to en- courage the use of language, reading, math and problem solving skills. The first session, for boys and girls age 6-9, will take place June 28-July 12 (14 days). The second session, for boys and girls age 9-12, will take place July 16-Aug. 2 (17 days). The third session is planned for Aug. 6-23 and it is for boys and girls aged 11-14. Dr. Barbara Vedder, a special consulant with Wayne County Intermediate School District, directs the program. Financial assistance is available. For information and application, call the Tamarack Camps office, 661-CAMP.
