musical celebration of
the 1930s and 40s,
The All Night Strut,
is playing at the newly reno-
vated Gem Theatre in
Detroit. It is a compilation of
songs presented by a piano,
bass and drum trio and four
vocal-and-dance performers.
The All Night Strut was
originally conceived,
choreographed and directed
by Fran Charnas of
Boston.
Ms. Charnas created the
musical revue in 1975. "It
took me nine months — the
same amount of time it takes
to give birth," she said in a
phone interview. The show
first played in Cleveland and
then went to Boston and
several other cities. It has
played in small towns, as
well as in regal theatres like
Monte Carlo.
"I loved the music and the
romance of the period. It was
a simpler time then," she
said. Ms. Charnas is current-
ly working on a West Side
Story revue to celebrate the
125th anniversary of the

hungry by donating more
than $1000 in non-
perishable groceries at the

bank, will be one of the reci-
pients of the donated food.

of Sweet Lorraine's Cafe in
Southfield prepared three
nutritional dishes, including
black bean soup, Jamaican
chicken and pineapple-
ginger muffins. Lisa Lis,
Weight Watcher's director of
creative services, joined Ms.
Platman as she prepared the
food.
The next programs to
learn gourmet secrets from
the pros and to donate to the
hungry will be held on Feb.
22 with Chef Max Weeks of
the Ritz Carlton and Feb. 29
with Chef Chuck
Rachwitz of Chuck Muer
Restaurants.
