Botsford's success to Mr.
Cooper's energy and to his
long professional and per-
sonal relationship with the
institution.
Mr. Cooper's father-in-law,
the late Dr. Allen Zieger, was
founder of Detroit's Zieger
Osteopathic Hospital —
Botsford's predecessor
organization.
"His family has roots with
this hospital," Mr. Potter says.
"It's been a labor of love for
him . . . and what's impress-
ed me over time is that he
doesn't slow down. He con-
tinues to learn; he continues
to renew; he continues to
keep himself refreshed while
at the same time cranking 65
to 70 miles an hour as a mat-
ter of routine."
Born and raised in Detroit,
Mr. Cooper earned a
bachelor's degree in business
administration from Wayne

State University in 1957. He
was director of personnel,
purchasing and data process-
ing for Botsford's parent com-
pany, Zieger Health Care Cor-
poration, when the hospital
opened in 1965. That same
year, he began his Botsford
tenure with the same title
and responsibilities and was
named president and CEO in
1984.

Mr. Cooper has held various
leadership positions with the
American Hospital Associa-
tion, American Osteopathic
Hospital Association and the
Michigan Osteopathic
Hospital Association.
A past board member of
Temple Israel, in 1990 he was
awarded the State of Israel
Maimonides Award for
leadership demonstrated in
the field of professional
health care services. ❑

Machon L'Torah Sets
Programs And Retreat

Machon IfIbrah, the Jewish
Learning Network of
Michigan, in conjunction
with Congregation Ohel
Moed Shomrey Emunah of
West Bloomfield, will co-
sponsor an educational pro-
gram 11 a.m. Feb. 23 at the
synagogue.
The program will include a
brunch and a presentation
titled "Life After the Death of
Communism", a personal ac-
count and slide presentation
of a trip to Russia by Rabbi
Avraham Jacobovitz. For

an educational evening led by
