of Metropolitan Detroit
sponsored a dinner program
on Feb. 5 at Somerset Inn
with guest speaker Bar-
bara Ashley. Ms. Ashley is
group senior vice president
of retail for the Bloomfield
Hills-based Taubman Com-
pany, a leading developer
and manager of retail and
commerical real estate in-
cluding Twelve Oaks,
Fairlane, Briarwood and
Lakeside malls.
Ms. Ashley spoke on the
trends in specialty retailing.
Some of the trends she noted
included the consolidation of
many retailers, the expan-
sion of designers opening
their own boutiques and the
forecast of strong sales in
home related products and
stores with a unique focus.
