Lecture/Debate
Set For Sunday

The Metropolitan Detroit
Jewish Coalition for Peace in
the Middle East will sponsor
a lecture/debate, "The Jewish-
American Dilemma: Linkage,
Pre-Conditions and Knesset
Politics" 3-5 p.m. Feb. 16 at
the Birmingham Temple.
Speakers will be Menachem
Rosensaft and Fred Pearson.
Menachem Rosensaft, an
attorney, is the past national
president of the Labor Zionist
Alliance and founding chair-
man of the International Net-
work of Children of Jewish
Holocaust Survivors.
Dr. Fred Pearson is a pro-
fessor of political science
specializing in international
conflict, and the director of
the Center for Peace and Con-
flict Studies, at Wayne State
University.
The Metropolitan Detroit
Jewish Coalition for Peace in
the Middle East is an organi-
zation dedicated to educating
the public about the perspec-
tives of the Israeli peace
movement. Member organiza-
tions include: the Labor
Zionist Alliance, the
Workmen's Circle, Americans
for Peace Now, New Jewish
Agenda, Americans for Pro-
gressive Israel and the Ann
Arbor chapter of the Pro-
gressive Zionist Caucus.
The program is open to the
public and admission is free.
Coffee and refreshments will
be served following the
programs.

Young Adults Host
Righteous Gentile

The Young Adult Division
of the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit will
host Irene Opdyke, a
Righteous Gentile, at a
vegetarian hors d'oeuvres
reception on behalf of the
Allied Jewish Campaign,
7:30 p.m. Feb. 20, at Peking
House, Royal Oak.
A modern-day heroine, Mrs.
Opdyke was 19 years old
when she saved the lives of 12
Jews, sheltering them in the
basement of a German of-
ficer's villa.
For her bravery and
courage, Mrs. Opdyke has
earned the title of
"Righteous," from the Corn-
mission for the Designation of
the Righteous, given to the
gentiles who risked their
lives in aiding and saving
Jews during the war.
The gathering is open to
contributors of $100 or more
to the 1992 Allied Jewish
Campaign. For reservation
