functions like A.Z.A. dances
and family celebrations, hit
the drums a la Gene Krupa
(without the gum) as the
Odyssey Band played "Sing,
Sing" so badly that Benny
Goodman's glasses would
have clouded up in shame .. .
Abe Epstein was lucky .. .
the band didn't accompany
him on "Mr. Wonderful" .. .
Abe didn't take piano lessons
until he was 40 years old.
Except for no TV, it was the
kind of stateroom you don't
mind staying in . . . spacious,
large bay windows, queen-size
bed, two large mirrored
closets, shower and bath,
padded arm chairs, glass
table . . . Really, between the
room and company aboard
ship, it almost made up for
the many deficiencies of this
line.
Strange that regardless of
the weather there were no
diversifications to keep the
passengers occupied other
than the normal everyday
boring routines.
Also odd that being a
member of the Conferie
Chane des Rotisseurs
gourmet dining club, Crown
Odyssey would be so very in-
consistent with its quality of
food . . . sometimes good,
never great . . . When a ship
boasts of being a member of
Chanes, one expects dishes
unlike others we've had on
previous cruises . . . This
wasn't so . . . And being a
member of the respected
gourmet group would
naturally elicit hopes for a
wine tasting which also never
happened . . . Being a Greek
ship, too, you would anticipate
some dishes that would
border on the elite . . .
However, Crown Odyssey fail-
ed in this category . . . It
bakes its own bread and
pastries, but imagine having
Greek bread (with caraway
seeds) only on Greek night?
. . . Greek Salad and Village
Salad too unless requested in
advance.
The Crown Odyssey would
do well to add a little more
class to its daily operation .. .
As evident when the wine
steward brought a bottle of
white wine to our table .. .
Jack asked that it be chang-
ed to red for Abe's sake, and
the wine steward said it was
for another table . . . He
would have done well to ad-
mit his mistake and leave the
bottle . . . Another time, wine
was brought to our table and
when Jack changed the white
to red, he was given a bill for
the difference . . . kind of
chintzy I would say . . . The
steward said $3 and the tab
came as $4 for Jack to sign.

Repeat
the
Romance!

It's amazing how much one
day of sun will change people
. . . make them laugh, alter
their personalities, talk with
smiling confidence . . . This is
what happneed when El Sol
finally showed up.
The beauty of Acapulco was
lost because of rain . . . but
seeing those young boys in
life-defying dives from the
high cliffs into water that
rushes into a cove filled with
rocks, where timing is so very
important is quite a show .. .

Puerto Vallarta was made
famous by the weekly "Love
Boat" TV comedy series and
Night of The Iguana film
. . . We never got off the ship
for Zihuatanejo . . . But Cabo
San Lucas turned out to be
the bargain sleeper of them
all for shoppers who were
sorry they didn't wait instead
of buying in Puerto Vallarta
. . . Cabo San Lucas, which I
think will be quite the place
in about five years, even had
a price war going on . . . Lit-
tle children sold wrapped
chicklets seven packs for a
dollar . . . and other
youngsters gave 10 for a
dollar.
In both Puerto Vallarta and
Cabo San Lucas there is
much bargaining fun . . . and
both buyer and seller think
they each got the better of it.
Thanks to the company
aboard the ship . . . and this
too is half the battle . . . the
cruise wasn't a total failure
. . . Let's mention their names
again . . . they deserve it .. .

ocean or skeet shooting?

anniversary.
