Toledo Museum
Sculpture Exhibit

Prescient Sculpture, an
admission-free exhibition of
recent works by Roberley
Bell, will open at the Toledo
Museum of Art in the Plough
Pavilion Gallery Feb. 2
through March 8. Presented
by the Department of Art of
the University of Toledo at
the Toledo Museum of Art,
the exhibition's opening will
be preceded by a free il-
lustrated lecture by Ms. Bell
to which the public is invited
Jan. 30 in Room 191.
The exhibition will feature
four separate wall installa-
tions composed of groupings
of smaller elements that
create a singular statement.
Made of domestic found ob-
jects engulfed by waxy, brown
organic forms, the configura-
tions play variations on her
theme, which is described by
the artist as "extracting from
nature an image to express
our own state of decay,
delirium and disorder."
One installation of 22 wall-
mounted found objects,
plaster, and graphite, spell
the word "no"; while another
work, Solutions, is a site-
specific installation of ten
vessel sculptures made of
found objects, cast concrete
and pigment.
Ms. Bell grew up in * Latin
America and Southeast Asia
and is visiting assistant pro-
fessor at Rochester Institute
of Technology in Buffalo, N.Y.
She earned the M.F.A. at
SUNY College of Ceramics at
Alfred University, Alfred,
N.Y.
The Museum's Plough
Pavilion Gallery is open Mon-
day 5-9 p.m.; Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday 9 a.m.-9
p.m.; Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.;
Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; and
Sunday 1-5 p.m.

A 50s Night

The Temple Emanu-El
Couples Club will present a
50s fun and games night 7:30
p.m. Feb. 1 in honor of the
temple's 40th anniversary
celebration.
The evening will include
hors d'oeuvres and dessert, as
well as games. Those in 50s
dress may win a prize for best
outfit. Other contests will be
held.
The cost for the evening is
a dish to pass and a per-
