Arthur Thompson

Temple Concert
Honors Leaders

A concert dedicated to Rosa
Parks, honoring U.S. Con-
gresswoman Barbara-Rose
Collins and Wayne County
Commissioner Bernard
Parker, will take place 7:30
p.m. Feb. 9, at Temple Israel.
This concert will feature the
Second Ebenezer Baptist
Church directed by Michael
Fletcher; Arthur Thompson,
Metropolitan Opera baritone;
David Syme, pianist; and
Cantor Harold Orbach.
Arthur Thompson made his
New York debut in 1967 after
studying at the Hartt College
of Music and Juillard. His
Metropolitan Opera Company
debut was in Central Park in
1973 in Die Fledermaus and
in 1974 he made his
Metropolitan Opera House
debut.
This concert is a celebration
of the cooperative spirit that
has emerged between
members of Temple Israel and
the Wilshire Block Associa-
tion from the east side of
Detroit. Joint projects under-
taken by the two com-
munities include building a
playground and packaging
and distribution of food
baskets to the hungry.
Underwritten by the Arlene
June Gottlieb Music Ap-
preciation Fund and the
Michael J. Syme Fund, the
concert is open to the com-
munity. For free tickets or in-
formation, call Temple Israel,
661-5700.

Warren Opens

will continue its 1991-1992

2 in the Warren Woods Fine
Arts Auditorium.

Rever, James Dawson, Lori
