Fewer Consider
West Bank

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Despite
the availability of cheaper,
more spacious housing in the
West Bank, fewer than 1
percent of householders in
the Greater Tel Aviv area,
Israel's most densely
populated region, would con-
sider moving there, accor-
ding to a new survey by
Marketest, a marketing
research firm.
The survey coincided with
new studies showing that
Israel is building housing for
Jews in the West Bank at a
faster pace than ever.
According to Oded Shay, a
Marketest official, the fin-
dings contrast sharply with
the results of a survey his
firm did for a West Bank
construction company in
1983.
At that time, 10 percent of
the respondents in Greater
Tel Aviv, also known as the
Dan region, said they were
considering or would be will-
ing to buy a house or an
apartment in the West
Bank.
That translated into
24,000 families, compared to
only 1,300 families in last
month's survey.
Mr. Shay said about 20
percent cited the West
Bank's uncertain political
future as the main reason
they do not • want to live
there, while 18 percent said
it was "too far from the
center." Another 15 percent
said the West Bank was "too
far from work."

Arab Women
Plan Stabbings

Jerusalem (JTA) — Two
young Arab women arrested
this week near the Western
Wall have confessed they
planned to stab Jews in the
Western Wall plaza,
Jerusalem police reported.
According to the police, the
pair was apprehended by
two suspicious policewomen
who followed them into a
tunnel near the wall. The
suspects had knives in their
pockets, which they pur-
chased shortly before their
arrest, the police said.
The police also claimed to
have obtained confessions
from eight of 16 people ar-
rested last week on suspicion
of membership in the Pop-
ular Front for the Liberation
of Palestine. They allegedly
belonged to a terrorist cell
operating in the Beit Hanina
neighborhood and the
Shuafat refugee camp north
of the city.
