In Volleyball

entennial and Keidan
B'nai B'rith lodges
had a number of
members miss the Pistons-
Bulls basketball game last
Sunday. The two lodges
staged their own shootout in
front of a volleyball net.
The two teams have been
battling all season for the
Division A lead in B'nai
B'rith Men's volleyball. On
Sunday, Keidan won four of
five games to forge a season-
ending tie with Centennial.
Centennial won six of 10
games Sunday, including
make-up games.
With both teams finishing
at 59-21 for the season, a
playoff game was necessary
to determine the regular
season champion. Centen-
nial won the playoff in a
"triple deuce" 20-18 game.
The two teams have an op-
portunity to knock heads
again this Sunday, during
the league playoffs. The top
four teams in each division
will play for the B'nai B'rith
Cup on Sunday.

Basketball
Shows Growth

With the conclusion of the
volleyball season, the B'nai
B'rith Men and B'nai B'rith
Youth basketball leagues
will begin play Feb. 2 at the
Orchard Ridge campus of
Oakland Community Col-
lege. The two leagues have
expanded tremendously this
years, according to B'nai
B'rith sports chairman Mar-
ty Melton. There will be 24
men's teams, and three addi-
tional teams had to be turn-
ed away. There are 18 AZA
youth teams, an increase of
30 percent, Melton said.
The teams will be using
three basketball courts at
the OCC gym from 8 a.m. to
2 p.m. each Sunday. With
10-12 players on each team,
the leagues represent nearly
400 basketball players. ❑
