Goldberg, that the political
infighting played a major role
in the school's difficulties is
without merit. Indeed, the
elections for a new board of
directors were not called un-
til late August. At that time,
the Yeshiva was already ex-
periencing financial dif-
ficulties (as evidenced by tui-
tion being raised by 10 per-
cent over the previous year).
In addition, by late August,
work for the annual banquet
has usually begun. Yet this
summer, preparations for the
banquet had not begun. This
delay in beginning work on
the banquet ultimately caus-
ed its postponement. It is
largely because of this lack of
the several hundred thousand
dollars in revenue usually
realized by the banquet, and
not at all due to political in-
fighting, that the Yeshiva
finds itself in its current
financial condition .. .
Another point made by Rab-
bi Goldberg is that the
Yeshiva suffers from a "lack
of institutional structure"
and has no ratified constitu-
tion. As a matter of fact, the
school has a clear structure:
the Board of Directors is in
control of financial affairs,
and the Vaad Hachinuch has
jurisdiction over the educa-
tional affairs. Furthermore,
the Yeshiva has been
operating under a constitu-
tion since its incorporation in
1929, with the current con-
stitution having been ratified
in 1951 .. .
It is obvious that though
the members of the "rabbinic
committee" are "well-
meaning people who were
looking to improve the situa-
tion at the school" they are
ill-informed. The Yeshiva is
by no means the inept, anar-
chic and bumbling organiza-
tion that one who read the ar-
ticle might be led.to believe.
It is simply a worthy educa-
tional institution which, like
many other charities, is going
through hard times.
With community-wide sup-
port, the Yeshiva will be able
to continue its 75-year tradi-
tion of providing a Jewish
education to our children.

JFS Group Helps
The Unemployed

The Jewish News recently
published an article about
how the Jewish community is
assisting the unemployed. As
a result of that article, Jewish
Family Service has created a
new group to deal with the
stress of unemployment for
those affected by the recent
economic recession.
