Camper Marissa Band shares some camp notes
and secrets about being a pioneer at
Camp Tamarack.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 31

THURSDAY, AUGUST 1

After breakfast we had
cabin cleanup. Then we
went to drama. After drama
we had our swimming test. I
got into white cap (the
deepest part we can swim
in). Then we ate lunch and
had rest hour after lunch.
We got in our bathing suits
and had general swim. Then
we had a presentation from
prime times (prime times are
activities that you sign up to
do without your bunk). After
dinner the staff put on a
show for us. We had
flashlight time and then
went to bed.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 4

After breakfast and cabin
cleanup we had Super
Sloppy Jewish Double Dare.
The green slime was made of

Today was the first day of
camp. It took an hour and a
half to get to Camp
Tamarack. My counselor is
Hilary Kristal; the girls in
my bunk are: Nicole
Czarnecki, Danielle Gable,
Alex Graham, Erica Berg,
Hilary Lubin, Adena
Rosenblatt, Jerrin Zumberg.
I am in Girl Pioneer. Dorm II
is for second- and third-grade
girls. Dorm III is for second-
and third- grade boys. Dorm
I is for fourth-grade girls.
Dorm IV is for fourth- grade
boys. Girl Pioneer is for fifth-
grade girls. Senior Side is for
fifth-grade boys. Today we
went to nature, projects, arts
and crafts, and sport 'n
games. We also went to Jew-
ish programming. I was so
excited and happy to finally
be at camp. I love Camp
Tamarack! My supervisor is
Jewels Lebowitz.

old arts and crafts and made
a neat hair holder. Then we
had lunch and went to the
lake for general swim. I saw
my brother coming out of
Swamp Walk. Then we went
to pioneer skills. At pioneer
skills we made candles,
bracelets, went in the barn,
used slingshots, and looked
at old-fashioned buildings.
After dinner we went back to
G.P. That day was fun!

mashed potatoes with green
food coloring. It was real fun.
Then we had super swim
which is swimming lessons.
We had lunch on the beach
and then had rest hour and
general swim. After general
swim we had our prime
times. Then we left for our
overnight. The overnight
was fun. We set up the tents
and got the fire started. We
had hamburgers and we had
potatoes which turned into
the best mashed potatoes!
We had s'mores and were
visited by the "nature
tribe!"

MONDAY, AUGUST 5

When we came back from -a
really fun overnight, we
made spirit necklaces at pro-
jects. They got the idea of
spirit necklaces from a camp
song called "I've got the
camp spirit in my . . ." Then

we got the video camera and
made a movie called "Barry,
Hilary says 'Hi.' " We pick-
ed that name because we
went one person at a time
and said: "Barry, Hilary
said 'Hi!' " The movie was
about a funny fake murder.
It was so fun. After lunch
and general swim we had
prime times. My prime time
is Rescue 911. After dinner
we had bunk time.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 6

We all had boy names. My
name was Mike. Today was
my bunk's theme day. We
dressed up like boys from
Senior Side and ran away
from G.P. We ate breakfast
at the Ampitheater. We
played kickball with G.P.
(Whew!) After kickball we
made string art. We ate lun-
ch at Senior Side with Suzy,
the supervisor of the camp.

After general swim we had
super swim. We got dressed
and played with the
parachute and the cageball.
The cageball is bigger than
me. We had dinner at main
camp. After dinner we went
canoeing. We made up a
poem for G.P. asking for
forgiveness and to be
welcomed back into G.P.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7

Today we went to Camp
Maas. We went to see what
it is like, since we will be go-
i n g next year. After
breakfast and packing, we
loaded on the bus and sang
our way to Camp Maas.
When we got there, we went
to this tower that we climb-
ed. After that we split into
two groups; one group went
to the new arts and crafts
and the other went to the old
arts and crafts. I went to the

THURSDAY, AUGUST 8

Today we woke up and it
was pouring. There goes
canoeing, super swim,
fishing, and our overnite.
We made do without them
and had a real fun day. We
ran to breakfast. Then we
made friendship bracelets,
had lunch, played games,
and had dinner. Instead of
our overnight we had G.P.
Theater. It was so fun! It
looked like a movie theater.
We had popcorn, pop, and
there was a place to put
shoes. We watched the Never
Ending Story II.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 9

After breakfast and cabin
cleanup we went to
Dinoland. Dinoland is a fun,
sticky, smelly, thick, cold
swamp. I got stuck a lot in
Dinoland. We rinsed off in
the lake and took a shower.
We had a place we used as a
diving board. It feels good to
be covered with mud. We
had so much fun. We ate
lunch and then had another
shower. We got dressed for
Shabbat. We went down to
main camp for dinner. We
had Super Duper Shmooze (a
long playing time after
dinner).
