Israel (USCSFI) is now accep-
ting athlete, coach and
trainer applications for the
14th World Maccabiah
Games, to be held in Israel,
July 5-15, 1993.
A 700-member U.S. delega-
tion, up from 500 in 1989, will
join over 5,000 Jewish
athletes from more than 43
countries for the two-week,
quadrennial competition. The
U.S. plans to participate in
both men's and women's corn-
petition in 30 sports ranging
from badminton to yachting
in four categories: open,
masters, juniors and disabled.

Election Year
Is Program Theme

"A View to 1992 . . . Elec-
tion Year Issues" will be the
theme of the Jewish Federa-
tion Young Adult Division an-
nual Political Awareness
Series, Jan. 21, Feb. 26,
March 26 and April 27. All
programs will begin at 7:30
p.m. and will take place at
Adat Shalom Synagogue.
The programs will focus on
U.S./Israel relationships,
black/Jewish relations,
political extremism and
political activism. They will
feature: Edward Levy Jr.,
chairman of the board of the
American Israel Public Af-
fairs Committee; Diana Aviv,
of the National Jewish com-
munity Relations Advisory
Council, Bernard Parker Jr.,
chairman of the New Detroit
race relations committee;
Richard Lobenthal, Michigan
director of the Anti-
Defamation League of B'nai
B'rith; and Doug Ross, former
Michigan state senator.
The series is being organiz-
ed by Ronald Klein and
Suzanne Gildenberg, chair-
men of the YAD Political
Awareness Committee, and
Nathan Upfal, vice-president
of YAD.
There is a charge for each
session or a discounted fee for
