Washington, D.C., will be the
speaker at the first install-
ment of the Irwin I. Cohn
Memorial Lectures on Tal-
mudic Law and Ethics 1992
Series 8 p.m. Jan. 14 at
William Beaumont Hospital.
He will speak on "Privacy —
A Constitutional Right?"
This session will focus on
doctor/patient relations, and
other cases involving the pro-
tection of the anonymity of an
individual in the light of
Jewish law.
Nathan Lewin is a
specialist in first amendment
litigation having argued 30
cases before the Supreme
Court of the United States.
In addition to his law prac-
tice, Mr. Lewin is national
vice president of the National
Jewish Commission on Law
and Public Affairs, president
of the American Section of
the International Association
of Jewish Lawyers and
Jurists, as well as past presi-
dent of the Jewish Communi-
ty Council of Greater Wash-
ington and Congregation
Beth Shalom in Washington.
Future lectures will include
Dr. David Kashdan of Har-
vard University on March 11;
Dr. Abraham Abraham on
May 12; and Professor J.
David Bleich in November.
The Irwin I. Cohn
Memorial Series in Talmudic
Law and Ethics is under the
auspices of the Lubavitch
Foundation of Michigan and
was founded by Federal Judge
Nathan Lewin
Avern Cohn in memory of his
father. The purpose of the
series is to interface modern
jurisprudence and medical
ethics with ancient talmudic
and halachic codes.
Members of the judges com-
mittee are Judges Avern
Cohn, Susan Borman, Martin
Doctoroff, Bernard Friedman,
Hilda Gage, Barry Grant,
Barry Howard, Charles Kauf-
man. Also, Judges Richard
