FRIDAY, JANUARY 3, 1992

tress Helen Hayes, critiquing
a Clark Gable movie, and
recalling famous people who
died that month. At the rate
I was going, I was surprised I
didn't mention how life was
much better during the
Depression.
By the fifth week, some of
the women had begun to drop
out, but I hung in there. I was
disappointed when class
began and Helen failed to
materialize. I was reunited
with Edna, but then a few
minutes later, Helen — My
Helen! — appeared, and we
were back again, the Fred
and Ginger of the adult
education dance class.
By the end of the 10th and
final week, I was getting pret-
ty good at the rhumba, the

cha-cha, the waltz and the
Lindy. Initially signing up for
the course as a way to meet
nice, young, single women
didn't turn out exactly as I
had planned, but it was fun.
I might return! 0
