HERE IT IS! THE BOOK ABOUT GROWING UP IN DETROIT IN THE 1920s Share The Great Memories Of That Wonderful Time Linburg Sculpture Is Installed The Center for Creative Studies has installed a new sculpture commissioned from Michigan artist Sue Linburg. Sited at the corner of John R and Kirby streets, the steel work suggests an entrance to the college. Titled "Arch: Montrose," the polychromed steel arch stands 11 feet by 7 feet and recalls the classical past to reconcile the present. Ms. Linburg appropriates both ar- chitectural and figural fragments of ancient Greece and imbues in them the spirit of ancient thought and the modern condition — the need to carve order out of chaos. The sense of order is challeng- ed by the mass of criss- crossing metal plates that form the arch itself. A Fulbright-Hays Fellow while studying at the Slade School of Fine Arts in England, Ms. Linburg com- pleted her M.F.A. at Wayne State University and taught on the faculty of C.C.S. from 1962 to 1991. Ms. Linburg's works are included in the col- lections of the Detroit In- stitute of Arts. Toledo Museum Mounts Exhibit "The Tenth Annual Awards in the Visual Arts" exhibit opened Dec. 15 at the Toledo Museum of Art. The exhibi- tion will feature 25 works, reflecting many approaches in contemporary art. In addition to paintings, photography, and sculpture, the exhibition will include mixed media pieces and en- vironmental installations. ' ml LOCAL NEWS rm.
